My Fair Lady Paper Doll Additional Pages

I chose to post this paper doll in one of my first blog entries as my original set is complete, in good condition, and I have never seen it anywhere else.  At the time I did not include the additional pages of the book.  To date this paper doll has been the most popular posting on my blog and for this reason I have decided to add the rest of the pages as today's entry.

Last week I received a comment asking whether the set had a wardrobe. It does, but the one that was provided is (in my opinion) not very attractive.  It is just a simple folder included inside the back cover.  The design is very typical of the 60's and does not compliment the doll who depicts the early 20th century.

Besides the doll and her clothes the book contains the story of Covent Garden.  I think it was supposed to double as a colouring book.  Although I was still an avid paper doll collector, by the time I was given this book I had passed the age of wanting to colour it in which is probably a good thing as it has remained in its original condition.

All the additional pages follow with the wardrobe included at the end. The front and back covers of the book are identical.  It was published in 1967.by C.B.S Limited.

Dublin Castle

Next week the Queen is visiting Ireland.  She will be attending a state dinner at Dublin Castle on Wednesday evening and during the past few days I have been watching the preparations being made from my office window.  I took these photos earlier this week before much of this area was closed to the public for security reasons.

My office is the building in the background of this photo. As I am on the second floor facing this lawned courtyard (and my desk is right in front of a floor to ceiling window) I have a beautiful view of the castle. The buildings in the previous pictures are behind where I was standing here.

Perfect Princesses

Perhaps it was just my reference to the royal wedding but last week's post proved to be unexpectedly popular.  Because of that I'm continuing with a similar theme this week - perfect princesses.  Once again all these images were taken from various issues of Once Upon a Time magazine, published between 1969 and 1971.  They represent the work of the artists I have already featured - Ron and Gerry Embleton, Jesus Blasco, Nadir Quinto and Jose Ortiz.  Some are works by artists I have not yet been able to identify.   If the princesses turn out to be half as popular as the weddings I will round off the trio next week with a selection of princes and heroes.

This princess looks as though she could have been the inspiration for Princess Leia.  Two princesses are shown in this post with very similar hairstyles.  Don't forget these pictures were published at least seven years before Star Wars was first released.

A Real Princess goes Shopping 

I just loved these photos printed in yesterday's issue of the Irish Mail.  Exactly one week after all the pomp and ceremony and Kate is shopping for groceries near her home in the island of Anglesey.  What appeals to me about these pictures is the contentment and happiness that shines through and her clear delight in sharing this with the world.  More than anything it goes to show that it is the small mundane things in life that can bring such joy in the right circumstances.

I thought the royal wedding last Friday was beautiful.  I loved the service at the Abbey which captured all the quintessential elements of every fairytale.  It made me realise what a timeless ceremony we were watching and how infinitely recognisable the traditions embodied in it are.

The illustrations I've posted this week are all royal weddings in fairytales - some familiar classics, some relatively unknown .  They were published between 1969 and 1971 in various issues of the children's magazine Once Upon a Time.

This painting from Beauty and the Beast by Ron Embleton always reminds me of one of the 'Where's Wally?' illustrations. With the focus of attention centering on the comic activity in the foreground the bridal couple are almost incidental as the prince raises his goblet to toast his new wife.
